Palo Duro Pavilion

Randall County, Texas

Donated by a prominent local developer and long-time friend of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the Mack Dick Group Pavilion provides a gathering place for park goers and a complement to the adjacent open air amphitheater.

The 3,300 square foot facility includes a spacious dining hall with double-sided fireplace, full commercial kitchen, restrooms, and large porches. The project goal was to design a building that deferred to the site and magnificent surroundings.

With a material palette drawn from the canyon itself and the use of simple shapes derived from agrarian buildings found across the region, the building does not call attention to itself and allows the canyon to remain the spectacle.
