Patience Ranch

Georgetown, Texas

Located in the rolling hills of Central Texas and surrounded by more than 350 acres of prairie grasses, spring wildflowers, live oaks, red oaks, and cypress trees, Patience Ranch is a place for our client’s family to gather and enjoy the outdoors. The ranch property comprises a main house, three lakeside cabins, a pavilion building, a party barn with a pool, and a lookout pavilion. The buildings are sited so that the people in the main house may enjoy privacy while those in the gathering spaces and cabins can convene in closer proximity to one another. A nearby spring-fed pond, with several access points, is available for swimming, canoeing, and fishing. The idyllic scene, completed with cattle and horses, is perfect for the relaxed ranch life.

The refined yet practical architecture and interior design of all buildings marries elegance with authenticity of place. Native and natural materials will weather and get better with age. Limestone walls with deeply set windows, concrete, weathered wood, and metal roofing are just some of the elements that unify the buildings. The outdoors flows easily into the indoors, as the materials are pulled inside and transform to become more polished. The resulting warm, inviting spaces are fundamentally interwoven with the ranch outside. Outdoor circulation and curated views of planted and restored meadow grasslands ensure a deep connection to landscape at all times.

The main house is sited along the water’s edge and steps down to meet it. Roughly L-shaped in plan, the long bar of the residence establishes the design ethos of the ranch with a generous entry breezeway framing the view to the lake beyond. The predominately open living, dining, and kitchen areas stretch to the east as the residence unfolds from these welcoming gathering areas to the more intimate spaces of the primary suite. Guest suites and a gym are positioned on the opposite side of the breezeway, closer to the water’s edge.

Light vertical wood panels clad much of the exterior of the residence, while transitions in the zones of the home are marked by open or screen breezeways and thick limestone walls. This rhythm of light wood and glazing with pauses of thick, heavy masonry grounds the residence, creating a peaceful interior experience. Interiors are defined by generous spaces where walls meet lofted ceilings with clerestory windows emphasizing the transition of the materials from the outside in with views of the tree canopy and sky beyond.

The party barn is the focal point and primary gathering area for the guests of Patience Ranch. Like the main house, the spaces are expansive and welcoming, perfectly planned for hosting both small and large gatherings of family and friends. The architectural language of the main residence continues here with the exterior seamlessly folding into the interiors. Thick limestone walls and light, weathered wood contrast darker ebonized wood of the kitchen, bar, and game areas situated along the northern side of the building, while the expansive living and seating areas look out on to views of the pool and hills beyond through a series of panoramic windows.

Four lakeside cabins ensure guests can enjoy the party barn and larger property for extended stays. These buildings, like the main house and party barn, emphasize an easy flow from the exterior to interior. Views and deep shaded porches ensure the lake always feels close by. While the wood cladding adds warmth to simple, yet refined design.

A small limestone perch, the lookout pavilion sits lightly overlooking the hills providing respite for those seeking more seclusion and moments to appreciate the landscape. With its inherent generosity and elegance, Patience Ranch brings family and friends together in an idyllic retreat surrounded by trees, grasses, and water.
