The Inn at Green Pastures
Austin, Texas
Nestled in Austin’s Bouldin Creek neighborhood, the roots of Green Pastures date back to 1895 when a modest farmhouse was built on a 50-acre estate. The owners christened the farmhouse Green Pastures and opened it to the public as an eatery and gathering place in 1946. Today, the oak-shaded acres are alive with resident peacocks and stunning scenery, and its storied past and tranquil atmosphere are a testament to Austin’s gracious hospitality just blocks from the city’s cultural and shopping districts.
Over the past decade, our design team has conceived and executed a phased master plan that both preserves the grand heritage oaks and introduces new experiences. Phase I transformed the original farmhouse into Mattie’s, a restaurant and event venue capturing the site’s gracious matriarchal charm. Phase II, set to open in Fall, 2025, will unveil The Inn at Green Pastures—a distinguished new hotel designed to mirror Mattie’s matriarchal warmth with a refined, “modern gentleman” character.
Sited beneath gracious oak trees, the three-story, L-shaped Inn respects the canopy by incorporating below-grade parking and giving guests a peaceful retreat from the city. West-facing bays open onto a private pool courtyard, bar, lounge, fitness center, casual eatery, and event space, each framing views of the landscape beyond. Generous steel and wood overhangs welcome visitors and shield the ground-floor windows from the fierce afternoon sun, reinforcing the project’s passive environmental strategies.
Inside, our interior designers distilled a pastoral palette into deep forest greens and rich browns, juxtaposing those hues with modern floral wallcoverings, crisp pinstripe upholstery, plush seating, embroidered drapery, and custom white oak millwork. Durable siding and clean architectural lines allow the building to stand on its own as a refined expression, while Henry’s, the Inn’s casual all day restaurant and bar, offers a playfully stylish yet distinguished dining experience.
In creating The Inn at Green Pastures, the team wove a respectful conversation across time: the gracious matriarch’s warmth meeting the modern gentleman’s refinement—each enriching the other and together extending Green Pastures’ legacy into the future.
